HIGHLIGHTS OF MEKONG DELTA ON BASSAC 4 DAYS/3 NIGHTS (DTA/HMKB)

The Mekong Delta is the most ecologically productive land in Vietnam. Half of the rice of the country is produced in the Delta in three crops per year, as well as hundreds of thousands of tons of catfish, sugar cane, fruit and vegetables.

This formidable production, Vietnam is the second largest rice exporter in the world, is still today mainly made by hand, according to traditional techniques.

Life in the delta is still rhythmed by nature. Let explore the mystic of the Mekong with us on board the Bassac, which can accommodate 12 passengers maximum in 6 twin cabins. The Bassac can run with a minimum of 2 passengers. The trip is in private basic.

Day 01: Ho Chi Minh City-Cai Be-Sa Dec (Lunch, Dinner)

At 07h00 or 07h30 a.m: Pick up from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City for a 3-hour journey down to the Mekong Delta. On arrival in Cai Be, board a local boat through the Cai Be floating market. Boarding on the Bassac, a welcome drink is served on board, introduction to the ship and crew. Check into cabins.

Departure from Cai Be to Binh Hoa Phuoc Island while lunch is served on board.

Transfer onto a local boat for a visit of the gardens and orchards on the bank of the peninsula. Back on board, a refreshment awaits you. Dinner is served as the Bassac gets under way towards the My Thuan bridge then towards Sa Dec. The Bassac drops anchor at the entry of Sa Dec for the night.

 

Day 02: Sa Dec-Tra On (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Breakfast is available from 6:30.

Transfer for a visit of the town of Sa Dec, following the tracks of French novelist Marguerite Duras.

Boarding back about noon at Sa Dec. Welcome back drink.

Lunch while en route. The Bassac goes douwstream the Tien Giang River towards Vinh Long. Rest on the deck, or enjoy the open bar.

Visit bricks and tiles kilns and the manufacture of earthenware pots on a bank of river Co Chien Boarding back, complimentary drink as a welcome back on board. Open bar and rest on the deck enjoying the sunset. The crew will serve dinner while the Bassac is cruising Mang Thit river. The Bassac sets anchor in front of Phuoc Hau pagoda, in Tra On, for the night.

 

Day 03: Tra On-Long Xuyen (Breakfast, Lunch and dinner)

Breakfast is available from 06:30, while the ship is cruising the Tra On floating market. The ship then departs towards Can Tho. Arrival in Cai Rang floating market, transfer onto a local boat to visit the floating market, the nearby arroyos and gardens and return to the Ninh Kieu pier. Arrival at Ninh Kieu, Can Tho, late morning.

Lunch on shore in an old French-era building of the Comptoirs d[chr:39]Indochine. Visit of the old Can Tho market. Boarding back, welcome drink and departure towards upstream river Bassac.

Upon arrival at Thot Not, transfer on the longboat for a visit of the famous Thot Not bird park, at the time the egrets return home from a day out. Boarding back before dusk, a welcome drink and the dinner are served on board while en route. The bar is open, rest on the deck before the night. The Bassac drops anchor near Long Xuyen for the night.

 

Day 04: Long Xuyen-Chau Doc end of trip (Breakfast)

Breakfast is served from 6:30 AM. As the Bassac is on its way upstream the river towards Chau Doc. Visit of a floating fish farm on the way. Upon arrival to Chau Doc, check-out and transfer onto a local boat for the visit of a village of the Muslim Cham minority, then final disembarkment. Make your own way to your hotel in Chau Doc. Public transportation such as Honda taxi are available at cheap transfer fee.


* Note: If you continue to Phnom Penh in Cambodia (not included in tour price), the Bassac will drop you at the pier after breakfast for your onward journey to Phnom Penh on shuttle speed boat.
